That's funny. I've lost a bunch of supporters here after my latest video. Even supportive people took offence. That means there might be a misunderstanding. (Or they weren't that supportive)
In case I need to make this clear, I am happy to do so: I love the wholesome parts of my audience. So many of you out there are lovely, smart, kind and inspiring. It doesn't matter if you are donating money to me or not, since I don't care about money. What matters is being supportive as a person and showing me the basic respect of considering what I do respectable work. Not acting like I'm a bot with a hobby.
The latter has been a widespread attitude in my "community" for far too long. Over time I noticed that the good members of my audience became outnumbered by something else. The support has decreased over the past years in both financial and social terms.
This isn't about money. This is about the fact that there hasn't been respect either. I don't need someone to give me money to be considered a supportive and genuine fan. But I sure as hell need someone to show basic kindness and appreciation, or understanding, for the kind of work that I do.
What sparked my video originally, was going to the book fair and meeting some of my fans in person. I had such a lovely and inspiring time meeting you in real life, that it made something snap inside of me, when I came home and saw what I had to compare with once I logged on the computer. Once I was faced by the "community" consisting of entitled users in comment sections.
Too much happens that you people don't see. Too much takes place behind the scenes and in hidden venues. I don't speak up enough about various forms of mistreatment, or how I'm doing mentally, since I don't like to come off whiney. I like to offer value, not make videos about myself. But that's just made me silent for far too long on what kinds of behaviours from my audience that have been draining me, and sucking the fun out of making videos. It's also made me silent on how well I'm actually doing, which will definitely affect the future of this channel.
I'm not an entitled youtuber stereotype who only cares about money. I am, however, still upset at how vulgarly my audience abandoned me when I got banned on Patreon. Every other youtuber who gets cancelled ends up seeing more support after the censorship, not less. Sargon and AtheismisUnstoppable are doing great on Subscribestar, better than they ever did on Patreon. But for some reason I don't get the support that's common when your free speech is attacked.
Being cancelled ruined my financial well-being and after 7 years of service in the name of Truth, it was very sour to have people turn their back on you. Just because they felt too lazy to register to a new website. (Only official reason I've been given by those people) There was no reward after doing so much good for so long. There was only a loss. The majority of my income to be exact. I had asked people if they wanted to see the show going, at first they said "Yes" then a month later they acted No. This left a void which has only gotten larger ever since. My community talks about free speech but didn't act on making it possible for me.
I tried speaking up politely, at first. I didn't want to demand too much attention. I wanted to give people time, so I tried speaking up in smaller announcements and parts of regular videos. I did this during the entire year that has gone, and all it did was annoy people and make them think of me as greedy - when I don't even have money. I was polite, kind and tried reminding people of how the situation hasn't been solved yet. But nobody cared. I've been polite for over a year since it happened, and nobody listened to me. Instead the same pattern started repeating itself: Less and less income by the month, even after being cancelled and having majority of your income removed. Even after I got banned on patreon, people started simmering away by the monthly, making it impossible for me to turn things around.
And now we're here.
I probably didn't speak up in the best way possible. But I wanted to be genuine, and at least I got the attention I never did before. It's sad how much I had to shock and offend people to get it. I didn't want to be a fake youtuber pretending like I'm okay when I know it's literally ending. I also didn't want to lie about how crucial crowdfunding is, since it's literally the responsibility of the audience if I can keep doing this or not. I'm not going to lie and act like something else when I've already made it clear there is no money left in doing Youtube. I don't earn money from monetization, sponsorships or stuff like that. It's no surprise that my humor, originality and production value started struggling around the same time my economy came to its end. They are connected. But people struggle to understand how they are connected. They still think youtube is the same site it was 8 years ago.
I now have 250 financial supporters in total. I asked for 600 in my video.
I will be making one last video announcement today informing on this situation, and hopefully we can bring my videos back. Hopefully we can turn it around and the Angry Foreigner show can keep going, with better production quality ahead, more humor, more weird wacky adventures and less blackpills. I want to vary up the content and make it feel fresh again.
If I can have peoples faith in me I'd be glad to make better content in the future, where you can see my personality again. Content that stands out more, since I don't have to care about views or pleasing algorithms when I have the financial support of the audience.
Oh yeah
One last piece of good news, before I go
EVERYONE who supports me financially on here, or on any of my other donation sites, is gonna get all my videos for free. I'm currently working on a download library for all my videos ;) It doesn't matter how much money you are giving me, because this is just a nice gesture I would like to do for my true supporters - no matter how the Angry Foreigner saga continues.
Stay tuned!
